Dr. Avis Jones-DeWeever, Host of Fearless Politics is also an Award-Winning Author, Political Commentator, Global Speaker and Principal of Nouveaux Strategies, a boutique research and strategic communications firm dedicated to equipping progressive organizations to lead—and win— in a rapidly changing world.

Formerly, Dr. Avis served as the youngest ever Executive Director of the National Council of Negro Women. She’s also had the honor of being the Keynote Speaker to President Obama’s Inaugural President of the United States ’Young African Leaders Summit and has served as a Featured Speaker before the World Bank. Over the years she’s conducted numerous workshops and trainings on women’s economic empowerment, political representation, leadership and entrepreneurship on behalf of U.S. Embassies across the globe.

As a prolific writer, Dr. Avis is the author or co-author of numerous publications, including her award-winning book, How Exceptional Black Women Lead along with The State of Black Women in the U.S. 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023 and 2024; Beyond Broke: Why Closing the Racial Wealth Gap is a Priority for National Economic Security; and You Mad? Black Women, Work, and the Normalcy of Disrespect, among many others.

Dr. Avis’ distinct perspectives have been shared through a variety of media outlets including CNN, MSNBC, PBS, TV One, NPR, Sirius XM Radio, the Washington Post, Essence Magazine, Black Enterprise Magazine, Entrepreneur Magazine and many more.

Dr. Avis currently serves as a member of the Board of Directors of the National Coalition on Black Civic Participation and Sister’s Lead Sister’s Vote, the Co-Chair of The Araminta Project, and Sr. Public Policy Advisor to the Black Women’s Roundtable.

But in her most important role, she serves as mother to two magnificent young men, who will one day, undoubtedly, change the world..
